The 6th of June has been the Swedish flag day ever since 1916, celebrated in the memory of the day (6th June, 1523) Gustav Vasa was elected King of Sweden at the Parliament in Västerås. Since 1983 6th of June is our national day and since 2005 it is also a national holiday. We still don’t celebrate it the way our Norwegian neighbours celebrate their national day (17th May), but at least now most people who works office hours have the day off work!
Happy 6th June! Go listen to our national anthem here!
